50 years after the final episode of Irwin Allan’s Sci-Fi spin on Swiss Family Robinson Netflix has launched an updated version of Lost in Space. Barry, Dave and Tod take a first look at this new interpretation and share their impressions on what works, what doesn’t, and where it differs conceptually from the original. As this is not the first attempt to revive this classic property, the Joes also take a look at the 2004 unsold pilot, The Robinson’s: Lost in Space, and the ambitious, but poorly received, 1998 Lost in Space feature film. Next they take a brief, nostalgic, look back at the original 1965-1968 series, with each picking a favorite episode.   Finally, Dave and Tod show off a few of their Lost in Space collectibles, and try to convince Barry to buy in.  Thanks for a Listening!

This week the Regular Joes each watched The Director and the Jedi, the behind the scenes documentary/propaganda film/rationalization exercise included with the Star War: The Last Jedi Blu-Ray. The discussion on this historically volatile topic proves interesting as everyone’s previous position shifts a bit…and not in expected ways.  Also, the hosts react to a new trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story and ruminate over the newest casting announcement for Star Trek Discovery.  All this plus the usual random topics.  Thanks for Listening!

Since it’s 2011 publication readers of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One have questioned whether the 80’s pop culture centric bestseller could, or should, be adapted to the screen. Fast forward to 2018 and Steven Spielberg has done it. Now the questions are, did he do the book justice, and how does the film play for someone who loves the original novel? Find out what the Regular Joes think. Also, the guys pick their three favorite Spielberg directed films and reach out to some friends of the show for their lists as well. The answers cover a broad swath of the filmmaker’s career, with decided leanings toward a certain fedora-sporting adventurer.  All this plus Random Topics, what’s in the box, and a Shatner specific listener query. Thanks for listening.

After some Random Topics, Barry fills us in on one of his recent projects (or is it long standing obsession?) in What’s on My Workbench. Next Dave gives his impressions of the recently released Rick Deckard gun from Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. This prop has been something of a Holy Grail for Sci-Fi fans for decades, and this first-ever licensed version from Tomenosuke is both very expensive and detailed enough for a supporting role in the recent sequel. From there we roll in to a brief examination of quintessential Sci-Fi side arms from film and TV. Thanks for listening!

Starting with genre defining X-Men in 2000 there have been 45 films based on Marvel Comics characters. Picking ten favorites among these is not an easy task. Particularly when our three hosts can’t come to anything like consensus on how the lists should be ranked/stacked/defined or rated. Nevertheless we did. While there are few surprises at the top end of the lists midway through things diverge wildly. What makes a great superhero film? Watchability? Nostalgia value? Or regard for the original material? We don’t definitively answer those questions...but we give it our best shot. All this plus, What’s in the Box, and the usual side order of Random Topics. Thanks for listening!
